Description: We are delighted to welcome Martin Grover back in 2010 for his exhibition “Somewhere under the rainbow”. There is a pace to Martin’s work. In the paintings in particular you can see a slow painstaking, attentive process at work; and they reward with a similar slow painstaking and attentive eye. There is a delight and joy in the observed detail we can share.
Narrative is a key element and Martin’s work has the quality of an establishing shot at the start of a movie or a poignant final scene. The paintings provide spaces for doubts, unsettled thoughts, reflection, rumination, a kind of dwelling on things. Indeed many of the images feature places in which to ruminate and dwell: sheds, wildernesses, rivers, prize-giving ceremonies, quiet st corners, a window, almost deserted parks,
empty playgrounds, duck ponds, abandoned garages. These are places we can too easily drift off, distracted, unanchored for a moment as we float away with our thoughts.
