  Martin Fidler

Artist information

Name: Martin Fidler
Genres: Cityscape, Landscape
Year of Birth:

Nationality:
British

Artist statement:

Martin Fidler’s work generates a true sense of place through balancing direct observation with his unique and imaginative application of materials. The visual effect enables the viewer to understand and appreciate Fidler’s method.

Fidler takes his inspiration from locations such as archaeological sites, gardens and ports - all places that are rooted in both the natural world and the urban landscape. Capturing his source material from life, the artist says: “I am fascinated by how the buildings of the city have changed over the years…my paintings, drawings and sculptures are based upon the experience of seeing real places and real things”.

Fidler’s work has developed along side a career in teaching, lecturing, theatre design, and collaborative projects with writers and other artists. He has exhibited across London, and in Europe and America. His work is held in several collections, including The Victoria and Albert museum and Tate Britain.
