A New Leaf - Randy Klein is working on a large public sculpture for a new development in Carshalton, Sutton. Expected completion in 2011.
Coney Island Angels - Klein's next solo exhibition will be at the Darlington Arts Gallery, from 18 December 2009 - 6 February 2010. Paintings, sculpture, and drawings, creating an evocative installation crossing the atmosphere of the funfair with the spiritual depth of the poet Dante.
La Via Dantesca - Klein's recent solo exhibition of sculpture relating to Dante's Divine Comedy. The Commune di Ravenna has acquired Klein's large Poetry Angel for permanent public display in the town centre.
Randy Klein’s work resonates with a spiritual and dreamlike quality. He finds the beauty of nature not just in the open spaces of the countryside, but also in the middle of London. The trees and skies frame the images of the city creating mysterious depth.
The paintings are enamel on aluminium, which gives the work a fresh directness and an extraordinarily vivid colour. Through Klein’s consistent delivery of a dynamic energy, his work brings a significant visual impact, gaining him a wide audience.
His reputation was originally established through his sculpture and prints. His sculpture is sited in many public locations, including a 25 ft. stainless steel sculpture in Brimmington Park (Old Kent Road, London) and a sculpture for Paterson Park in Bermondsey.
Klein’s work is in many private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Tate Gallery, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the New York Public Library.
Klein has now held over 26 solo exhibitions. Since moving to London in 1984, he has exhibited widely in the UK, France, and Italy, while continuing to exhibit in the US. Many of these solo exhibitions have been in public galleries, including Midland Arts Centre (mac) in Birmingham (1997, 1994), and the European Academy in London (2000)
'Road'-The New Book by Randy Klein
Take a trip on down the road with artist Randy Klein. From the streets of Brooklyn and downtown New York, through the hills of Italy, and finally on to London.
This book is the latest in a long line of Klein’s artists’ books. Within these pages are snapshots of a journey, told in the drawings, paintings, sculpture and prints that have illustrated this trip.
Written by the artist himself together with critic and author John Russell Taylor, the tale touches on poetry, diary, and observations of life seen through a car window.
