¡PRESENTE! Contemporary Art from Cuba: At Searcys, The Gherkin

7 November - 22 December 2016

At Searcys, The Gherkin

Visits by appointment only

¡PRESENTE! Contemporary Art from Cuba is a rare opportunity for people in the UK to become familiar with art being made by Cuban artists right now. After a fantastic opening at GX Gallery, the ¡Presente! Cuban exhibition is now on show at Searcys, The Gherkin until 22 December 2016, which will be the final opportunity to view this extraordinary body of works.

¡PRESENTE! showcases original art created by 30 artists living and working in Cuba today. It will highlight the diversity of current Cuban visual artistic practice, through painting, photography, mixed media, drawing and print, all exploring the concerns of contemporary Cuba.

The exhibition is a collaboration with GX Gallery and UK charity Music Fund for Cuba, which supports arts education projects across the island and is working closely with the Cuban Ministry of Culture and the artists. Cuban art is in an exciting phase, and ¡Presente! will provide an important chance for artists to become better known in this country.

The exhibition will include artworks reflecting the range of themes and approaches and involve artists from different generations – from internationally respected artists such as Luís Enrique Camejo, Kcho, Roberto Diago and Reynerio Tamayo to emerging young stars such as Niels Reyes, Lisandra Isabel Garcia and Adislén Reyes Pino. There will also be a programme of educational and cultural events alongside the exhibition with invited Cuban artists participating and a catalogue produced.

All artworks are for sale, proceeds going to Music Fund for Cuba.
