Courtney Heather: Loud Places

31 May - 2 July 2016

Courtney Heather looks to recreate the allure of an event that has caused people to come together to “spectate”. In so doing, Heather paints scenes of crowds, where each person is focused on an unknown event in what she considers to then be a “loud place”. She has found that these moments can occur in both everyday normal settings and rare occasions, but in every situation, she believes that in joining in to “spectate” each person momentarily loses their individuality as they submit to the safety of a crowd.

All of Heather's works are references from various video stills and play on the relationship between being a witness and the act of documentation.
