Artist Reception:  17th August @ 7.30pm

Through movement humans can recognize and discover the world, and thus discover themselves. Jonna Pedersen has walked through streets of London and New York and she is showing us the world as she sees it for us to discover the world anew and to see ourselves and reality with new eyes.

For many people who see these sites every day, the details are probably so familiar that they become blind spots in their consciousness. But to others, the undercurrent reflects vibrant human activity despite the fact that the facades are depicted in a deserted time warp. By not portraying any people, Pedersen sharpens the viewer’s imagination about what is occurring: The different traces that people leave behind, the city itself and its graffiti etc.

Pedersen’s walks in the cities have also led her into supermarkets. The artist’s fascination with product packaging is manifested in representations of everyday life showcasing consumer products. She calls her paintings of consumer products for “time images”, being interpretations of our global and local culture mixed together.

Pedersen makes the invisible visible. Nothing is too ugly or nonaesthetic. For Pedersen, life and art are intertwined. The things that occupy her have roots in her childhood or derive from everyday life.

So “Foot Action” is about rediscovering everyday life and for Pedersen a journey in itself.

The book “Documentary” with texts of historians Trine Ross and Bente Jensen describing Pedersen’s fascination for city scapes and product packaging is available in GX Gallery.
